About this event

Narrative concert
Once upon a time… there were Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, the Empress of the Pagodas, the Beauty and the Beast as well as a Secret Garden. In Ma mère l’Oye, fairy-tale figures and colourful sounds meet. In the cycle Maurice Ravel composed for two children of friends of his, he lovingly invoked the «poetry of childhood». Hardly anyone experiences this music so directly as young listeners.

The music: Maurice Ravel: Ma mère l’Oye (Mutter Gans). Ballet
The artists: Luxembourg Philharmonic; Mikael Loponen (conductor)

Narrative concert introducing children aged 4–8 to Maurice Ravel's Ma mère l'Oye (Mother Goose), a ballet suite of fairy-tale pieces. The Luxembourg Philharmonic, conducted by Mikael Loponen, performs the work while a storytelling narration in Luxembourgish brings the colourful characters — Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, the Empress of the Pagodas, Beauty and the Beast, and the Secret Garden — to life. The 55-minute, no-intermission concert is aimed at young listeners and their families.
