Franco Fagioli & Michele D’Elia: Bel canto

Bel canto = literally, beautiful singing.
And Franco Fagioli delivers exactly that. A countertenor with the range of a soprano and a warmth entirely his own, he takes on two centuries of Italian vocal music – from Cavalli’s tender 17th-century arias through to the dazzling fireworks of Bellini and Donizetti. If you’ve never heard a countertenor live, prepare to have your expectations completely rearranged. Tender one moment, acrobatic the next, and always completely thrilling.

The music: Francesco Cavalli: «Delizie, contenti che l’alma beate» (Il Giasone); Alessandro Scarlatti: «Già il sole dal Gange» (L’honestà negli amori); Marc’Antonio Cesti: «Intorno all’idol mio»; Antonio Lotti: «Pur dicesti, o bocca bella»; Georg Friedrich Händel: «Di speranza un bel raggio… Venti, turbini» (Rinaldo); Domenico Scarlatti: Sonata K 347; Geminiano Giacomelli: «Sposa, non mi conosci» (Epitide); Wolfgang A. Mozart: «Parto, ma tu ben mio» (La clemenza di Tito); Vincenzo Bellini: «Ma rendi pur contento» (Ariette da camera N° 6) · «Malinconia, ninfa gentile»; Gaetano Donizetti: «Amore e morte» · «Me voglio fa’ ’na casa»; Gioacchino Rossini: «Mura felici» (La donna del lago) · Marche et réminiscences pour mon dernier voyage (Péchés de vieillesse) · «La pietà che in sen serbate» (Eduardo e Cristina)
