About this event

«Going on stage is like launching a rocket into the cosmos.»
Maxim Vengerov joins forces with the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Antonio Pappano, bringing a burst of light with Ludwig van Beethoven’s vibrant Violin Concerto. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony N˚ 8 is a sobering reflection on the tragedy of war. Allegedly, the composer suggested an alternative title: «Through cosmic space the Earth flies towards its doom». However, beauty triumphs over evil in the final movement, an indication that there is still time to change course.

The music: Ludwig van Beethoven: Violinkonzert; Dmitri Chostakovitch: Symphonie N° 8
The artists: London Symphony Orchestra; Sir Antonio Pappano (conductor); Maxim Vengerov (violin)
