What if a constraint became a space of absolute freedom? With the exhibition 3500 cm², Luxembourg artist Massimo Beni devotes a new series of paintings to a single format: 50 × 70 cm — exactly 3,500 cm². Presented at Galerie Subtile in Luxembourg from 14 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, this previously unseen series invites viewers on an intimate and rigorous journey into a mental theatre where geometry, memory and allegory intersect.
Massimo Beni lives and works in Esch-sur-Alzette. With a technical and industrial background, he developed an artistic practice from the 1990s onwards in which drawing, construction and geometric precision occupy a central place.
His personal journey, marked by memory and emotional reconstruction, informs a painting practice that is both structured and profoundly human.
Active on the Luxembourg art scene since 1994, he has notably exhibited at the Galerie du Théâtre in Esch-sur-Alzette in 2022, in the context of Esch2022, European Capital of Culture, and at Subtile in 2024.
In 2025, he designed the four artistic trophies presented to the winners of the sixth edition of the Diversity Awards organised by IMS Luxembourg.
Critical text by Marie-Anne Lorgé
“Stories all told within the same format (50 × 70 cm), like so many pieces of a puzzle that both bears witness and unmasks, through hints and allegories, with a lucidity tinged with optimism and irony, even poetry. What Beni gives form to is a mental theatre that challenges and sometimes unsettles".
